College & Career Night

Overview and assistance navigating the financial aid process to help finance college, including the FAFSA, other financial aid pieces and an introduction to local scholarships that will begin to be available by the end of January 2017.

BRIGHT FUTURES SCHOLARSHIPS – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

|CLASS OF 2017
||If you are a CURRENT SENIOR and believe you qualify for a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship, please make an appointment with Mrs. Townsend to complete the application starting in January 2017. Please do not complete it on your own. Technically, students have until June 2016 to make the qualifying test scores; however, it is highly recommended that Bright Futures eligibility requirements are met as early in the senior year as possible to confirm scholarships in advance of the end of the school year. Eligibility requirements are available here.
|CLASS OF 2018 and later
||Now is the time to work on GPAs, community service hours, graduation requirements, and SAT/ACT preparedness in preparation for Bright Futures eligibility.
COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS - ACT & SAT
|Current Sophomores and Juniors who recently received their PSAT scores - you will receive further instruction from Guidance in classroom visits this February in regards to your scores and next steps. In the interim, please view this document for your next steps.

Students - Link your College Board and Khan Academy accounts
for the free practice through these steps:
1. satpractice.org – log in to or create your Khan Academy account
2. Link Your Accounts – when prompted, agree to link your Khan Academy and College Board accounts
3. Send Your Scores – Sign in to or create your College Board account and hit “Send” to send your scores.

|OTHER ACT & SAT PREP OPPORTUNITIES
Now that current freshmen, sophomores and juniors have taken the PSAT, many of them will want to decide which test they should take next, the SAT or ACT. To help them make this important decision, I would like to invite your students to participate in Kaplan’s National Practice Test Weekend. Free SAT/ACT Combo Practice tests will be offered throughout the country and Live Online on November 12th and 13th. We hope your students will join us on November 12th in N. Miami, Orlando or one of our Live Online venues. Please visit www.kaptest.com/practicetestweekend for more information and locations.
Students will take our unique “combo” practice test, exposing them to every section of each exam . After the test, students will see their scores instantly and receive detailed data helping to determine which test may be best for them.

Remember to ask for letter of recommendation at least 2 weeks in advance of the letter of recommendation deadline. The resume may also be a requirement of some college admission applications.
