|The Horatio Alger Scholarship Opportunity
||National Scholarship opportunity for students who have at least a 2.0 GPA and require financial assistance to go to college. Eligible students must be full-time enrolled high school seniors in the U.S. who plan to pursue college the Fall after HS graduation. Other eligibility requirements apply.

|Ready, Set, College!

|The free workshop, entitled “Ready, Set, COLLEGE!,” will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the library on the College’s Key West Campus. The first part of the workshop will focus on writing for effective essays for both college admissions and scholarship applications.The session will also help parents learn how to better evaluate student essays and suggest improvements. The second half of the workshop will be dedicated to learning about different ways to pay for college through federal grants and loans, scholarships, and payment plans. FKCC financial aid staff will provide hands-on guidance through completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is the first step required for federal and many other financial aid opportunities.

BRIGHT FUTURES SCHOLARSHIPS – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

|CLASS OF 2017
||If you are a CURRENT SENIOR and believe you qualify for a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship, please make an appointment with Mrs. Townsend to complete the application starting in January 2017. Please do not complete it on your own. Technically, students have until June 2016 to make the qualifying test scores; however, it is highly recommended that Bright Futures eligibility requirements are met as early in the senior year as possible to confirm scholarships in advance of the end of the school year. Eligibility requirements are available here.
|CLASS OF 2018 and later
||Now is the time to work on GPAs, community service hours, graduation requirements, and SAT/ACT preparedness in preparation for Bright Futures eligibility.

|Current Sophomores and Juniors who recently received their PSAT scores - you will receive further instruction from Guidance in classroom visits this February in regards to your scores and next steps. In the interim, please view this document for your next steps.
